Coffee that sits on a burner for a while will taste bad, so then you have to throw it out.
As soon as your coffee finishes brewing, turn off the burner and heat any that you want after that in the microwave.
I am the only coffee drinker in my house and I used to throw out a lot of coffee.
Now I turn off the burner and it sits in my pot on the cabinet for 2 days or more. When I re-heat it in the microwave, it tastes freshly brewed... down to the last drop.
The secret is not to leave it heating for a long time. I have never had a problem with it going bad or tasting burned.
